Poststrasse 560, 7132 Vals, Switzerland

Built around Peter Zumthor’s extraordinary thermal baths in Vals, 7132 is as much an architecture pilgrimage as a hotel, combining Alpine isolation, mineral water, and serious design.

7132 Hotel is inseparable from its setting in Vals, a small mountain village where the landscape and local stone define the experience. The property feels intentionally remote, making the journey part of its appeal rather than an inconvenience to overcome.

Its defining feature is the 7132 Therme, designed by Peter Zumthor in 1996. Built from roughly 60,000 slabs of local Vals quartzite, the baths use naturally warm mineral water from the St. Peter spring to create one of Europe’s most architecturally significant spa experiences.

Architecture continues beyond the baths. The House of Architects offers rooms conceived by Peter Zumthor, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, and Thom Mayne, allowing guests to choose between dramatically different design philosophies within the same property.

The main hotel is more conventionally luxurious, with suites opening toward uninterrupted Alpine views. Dining ranges from relaxed options to the ambitious 7132 Silver, keeping the property from relying on the thermal baths alone.

7132 is best understood as a destination rather than simply accommodation in the Alps. It appeals most to travelers interested in architecture, bathing culture, and quiet mountain immersion, with a sense of place that would be difficult to reproduce elsewhere.
