Amankora Thimphu sits in the upper reaches of Motithang, hidden in pine forest while remaining close to the center of Bhutan’s capital.

The 16-suite lodge takes cues from traditional dzong architecture, using stone walls, timber and a restrained palette to create a more monastic mood than a conventional city hotel.

Suites are spacious and simple, with wood-burning stoves, window seating and deep terrazzo bathtubs. The compact spa and forest-facing dining spaces reinforce the lodge’s intimate character.

Its location makes cultural exploration particularly easy, from the Buddha Dordenma and Tashichho Dzong to museums, textile workshops, markets and nearby hikes.

Amankora Thimphu is an unusual urban stay: close to the country’s political and cultural center, yet quiet enough to feel fully removed from it once guests return to the lodge.
