A 22-room lodge on a working tea plantation beside Nyungwe National Park, combining chimpanzee trekking, intimate forest suites, all-inclusive dining and deeply personalized service in southwest Rwanda.
One&Only Nyungwe House sits within a working tea plantation immediately beside Nyungwe National Park, one of Africa’s oldest surviving rainforests. Green tea fields, misty hills and dense forest surround the lodge in almost every direction.
The 22 rooms and suites are spread through low buildings overlooking tea or forest, with fireplaces, deep soaking tubs and private terraces designed for recovery after active days. The small room count allows service to become highly personal very quickly.
Chimpanzee trekking is the headline experience, but the national park also offers canopy walks, birding and encounters with multiple primate species. On the property itself, guests can pick tea, practice spear throwing, learn archery or simply watch monkeys moving through the trees.
Meals and drinks are generally part of the stay, with chefs adapting menus closely to guest preferences and drawing on Rwandan ingredients. The spa uses African-inspired treatments, while the pool, yoga and forest setting support a slower rhythm between excursions.
Nyungwe House is best for travelers who want wildlife, landscape and cultural experiences to define the trip. Its tea-plantation setting and tiny scale make it feel deeply embedded in southwest Rwanda rather than imposed on it.
