Designed by Marcio Kogan’s Studio MK27, Patina Maldives pairs low-slung modernist villas, ambitious art and dining with the social energy of the Fari Islands.
Patina Maldives occupies part of the Fari Islands archipelago in North Malé Atoll, about 45 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport. Its design by Marcio Kogan and Studio MK27 keeps buildings low and horizontal so that architecture frames the sea rather than competing with it.
The resort includes 90 one- to three-bedroom beach and water villas plus 20 Fari Studios. Natural materials, broad glass openings and private pools create an unusually architectural version of Maldivian resort living, with a stronger emphasis on contemporary design than tropical ornament.
Art is woven throughout the island. Large-scale commissions and installations, including James Turrell’s Amarta Skyspace, give the resort a cultural dimension that extends beyond décor and makes the public spaces feel curated rather than merely landscaped.
Patina also benefits from Fari Marina Village, a shared social hub with restaurants, boutiques, a beach club and marina facilities. Across the wider resort, an extensive dining lineup, watersports, wellness programming, gardens and fitness facilities allow guests to shift easily between solitude and activity.
The result is a Maldives experience that feels particularly suited to design-conscious travelers who want both privacy and stimulation. Patina offers the classic water-and-sand setting, but its architecture, art and communal spaces give it a distinct identity.
