Set inside the restored 19th-century Palácio de Valle Flôr, Pestana Palace feels like an urban resort, with monumental interiors, classified gardens, pools and easy access to Lisbon’s Belém district.
Pestana Palace Lisboa occupies the Palácio de Valle Flôr, a lavish late-19th-century residence west of Lisbon’s historic center. After a decade-long restoration, the palace reopened as a hotel in 2001 and is now itself classified as a National Monument.
The most memorable public rooms are inside the original palace, where stained glass, painted ceilings, carved detailing and a monumental staircase preserve the atmosphere of a private aristocratic residence. Contemporary wings hold much of the hotel’s 190 rooms and suites without overwhelming the historic core.
Four Royal Suites occupy former family quarters and offer one of the strongest ways to experience the palace itself. Elsewhere, rooms are more restrained, making the historic salons and gardens the real visual stars of the property.
Those gardens are also protected as part of the national monument and give the hotel a genuine resort quality. Indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, gym and seasonal garden dining create more space for lingering than most central Lisbon hotels can offer.
Pestana Palace is particularly attractive for travelers who want Lisbon with a sense of retreat and history. The trade-off for being outside the tightest historic core is access to a palatial setting, mature gardens and the monuments of Belém nearby.
