Rosewood Kauri Cliffs occupies an enormous coastal estate near Matauri Bay in Northland, where rolling farmland gives way to native forest, cliffs and Pacific Ocean views. The remoteness is part of the appeal, with Kerikeri Airport roughly half an hour away and helicopter transfers possible from Auckland.

Accommodation is spread through spacious junior suites and private villas, many with open fireplaces, broad balconies and views across the golf course toward the ocean. The interiors create the feeling of an elegant New Zealand country house rather than a conventional resort.

David Harman’s par-72 championship golf course is one of the property’s defining attractions, threading through ridges and farmland with sweeping Pacific vistas. A private clubhouse, practice facilities and stay-and-play programs make golf a genuine destination experience.

The spa sits at the edge of a Totara forest and opens treatment rooms onto private outdoor patios. Guests can also use a lap pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, tennis and secluded beaches, including the distinctive pink-shell beach used for private dining.

Rosewood Kauri Cliffs is best for travelers who want seclusion, golf and landscape in equal measure. The lodge’s small scale and enormous estate make the Northland scenery feel almost private.
