Hidden within a vast Japanese garden near Shinagawa Station, Takanawa Hanakohro is a 16-room ryokan-style retreat with tatami suites, private OH-SAI Lounge privileges and deeply personalized omotenashi in central Tokyo.
Takanawa Hanakohro occupies a quiet ryokan-style enclave within Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, reached by walking through a roughly 20,000-square-meter Japanese garden only minutes from Shinagawa Station. The contrast between major transport hub and almost ceremonial arrival is central to the experience.
There are only 16 guestrooms, all Japanese-style suites with tatami, low beds and sofas designed to preserve traditional calm while remaining comfortable for international travelers. Rooms begin around 50 square meters, while the Hanakohro Suite expands beyond 100 square meters.
Every guest receives access to the private OH-SAI Lounge, where tea, breakfast, cocktails and nightcaps are paired with experiences such as matcha grinding and sake tasting. Guests can also lounge-hop across neighboring Prince hotels and use sauna, whirlpool and fitness facilities within the wider Takanawa complex.
A private TAYUTA SPA exists exclusively for Hanakohro guests, although the hotel currently lists the facility as closed until further notice, making the shared wellness facilities especially relevant in 2026. Dining options across the garden include teppanyaki, tempura, French and kaiseki-style experiences.
Takanawa Hanakohro is best for travelers who want the service language and atmosphere of a ryokan without leaving central Tokyo. Its tiny room count, garden and lounge rituals create a sense of intimacy that is exceptionally rare near a major Shinkansen station.
