A Foster + Partners transformation of a landmark 1969 government building, The Murray pairs unusually large rooms, refined modernist architecture and rooftop dining with a quiet Central location beside Hong Kong Park.
The Murray, Hong Kong occupies the former Murray Building on Cotton Tree Drive, a landmark modernist government structure completed in 1969. Foster + Partners adapted the building into a luxury hotel while preserving its distinctive white arches and deeply recessed windows.
The 336 rooms and suites are exceptionally spacious by Hong Kong standards. Interiors are clean and contemporary, while the original window design naturally shades the glass and frames views toward Hong Kong Park, Central and the surrounding skyline.
The location feels surprisingly quiet despite being in the heart of Central. Hong Kong Park sits across the street, and the Peak Tram, business district and major shopping areas remain close enough for guests to reach easily on foot or by short transfer.
Popinjays crowns the hotel with a rooftop restaurant and terrace offering broad city views, while The Tai Pan and MIÁN provide additional dining choices below. Spa facilities and an indoor pool add a complete wellness component within the historic shell.
The Murray is best for travelers who value architecture, room size and a calmer side of Central. Its adaptive reuse gives the hotel a strong identity, turning a piece of Hong Kong’s civic history into one of the city’s most design-conscious stays.
