The Okura Tokyo stands in Toranomon on the historic site of the original Hotel Okura, which opened in 1962 and became an international symbol of Japanese modernism. The current hotel preserves that legacy while dramatically expanding the scale and capabilities of the property.

The hotel is divided between the 41-story Prestige Tower and the lower Heritage Wing. Prestige rooms rise high above Tokyo with panoramic views, while Heritage accommodations emphasize gardens, larger footprints and a more traditional Japanese atmosphere.

The celebrated lobby was painstakingly reinterpreted from the original, retaining its low furniture, geometric lanterns, lacquered tables and shoji-inspired screens. The result is one of the rare luxury-hotel spaces where postwar design history feels genuinely alive.

Dining ranges from Yamazato and Sazanka to French restaurant Nouvelle Epoque and rooftop Starlight. Okura Fitness & Spa includes a 25-meter indoor pool, treatment facilities and skyline-facing fitness spaces, while the Okura Museum of Art adds a cultural dimension.

The Okura Tokyo is best for travelers who care about design history as much as conventional luxury. Its two distinct accommodation experiences, serious Japanese hospitality and recreated modernist public spaces make it one of Tokyo’s most important hotels.
