A 30-room contemporary mountain lodge carved into the rock above Zermatt, THE OMNIA pairs Matterhorn views, minimalist rooms, an indoor-outdoor pool and serious wellness with a remarkably intimate atmosphere.
THE OMNIA Mountain Lodge sits above the center of car-free Zermatt on a rocky ledge reached by a tunnel and private elevator. The unusual arrival immediately separates the property from the larger chalet-style hotels lining the village below.
Architect Ali Tayar interpreted the mountain lodge through a cosmopolitan rather than rustic lens. The 30 rooms and suites use wood, stone, leather and restrained furnishings, with many categories opening toward balconies and Matterhorn views.
The wellness center is unusually complete for such a small hotel, with an indoor-outdoor pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, Finnish sauna, bio sauna, flower and herbal steam rooms, treatment spaces and a fitness studio. Sun decks make the mountain landscape part of the experience in warmer weather.
The restaurant is a central part of the stay, with seasonal cuisine served in an intimate room around a fireplace and broad windows. A library, lounge bar and numerous quiet corners reinforce the feeling of a private alpine house.
THE OMNIA is best for travelers who want Zermatt sophistication without grand-hotel formality. Its tiny scale, dramatic arrival and modern design create a deeply personal counterpoint to the spectacle of the Matterhorn.
