Beside Jing’an Park, The PuLi remains a benchmark for contemporary Chinese urban-resort design, combining serene Jaya-inspired interiors, 229 rooms and suites, Michelin-starred dining and a 25-meter infinity pool.
The PuLi Hotel and Spa occupies a central Jing’an address between Nanjing West Road and Yan’an Road, yet its relationship with leafy Jing’an Park gives the property a sense of separation from Shanghai’s relentless pace. It was conceived as one of China’s first true luxury urban resorts.
The hotel contains 193 rooms and 36 suites shaped by a design vocabulary of dark timber, stone, silk and references to traditional Chinese domestic objects. Long horizontal sightlines and restrained lighting give the interiors an almost residential serenity despite the high-rise setting.
A 25-meter heated infinity pool looks toward mature trees, while the spa adds sauna, steam and treatment facilities. Together with the long lobby spaces and garden-facing areas, these amenities make wellness and stillness central to the hotel rather than secondary.
PHÉNIX provides the principal fine-dining experience and has been recognized by Michelin, while the Long Bar and Garden Terrace give guests more relaxed places to linger. The food-and-drink spaces follow the same quiet, design-conscious tone as the guestrooms.
The PuLi is best for travelers who want Shanghai luxury to feel rooted in place without relying on obvious historical pastiche. Its influence comes from the balance of modernist simplicity, Chinese references and a genuine resort sensibility in the middle of Jing’an.
