On a rare peninsula between the Atlantic and Intracoastal, this exceptionally private Bal Harbour resort is undergoing a complete transformation and is scheduled to reopen in January 2027.
The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour occupies the northern tip of Miami Beach, where the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway meet. The setting is unusually secluded for Miami, with Bal Harbour Shops and the restaurants of Surfside nearby but little through-traffic around the hotel itself.
The resort is temporarily closed for a major transformation and is scheduled to reopen in January 2027. The redesign is intended to preserve the property’s intimate residential character while refreshing guestrooms, suites, restaurants, public spaces, pool and beach areas.
Privacy has always been central to the building’s design, with only two accommodations on many floors. Floor-to-ceiling windows, large private terraces and standalone tubs orient guestrooms toward either the Atlantic or Intracoastal.
The reimagined resort is expected to add a chef-led signature restaurant, an exclusive members club and a significantly elevated Ritz-Carlton Spa and fitness experience. Its semi-private beach and waterfront pool will remain central to the leisure offering.
Once reopened, Bal Harbour should continue to appeal to travelers who want Miami without a large social-resort atmosphere. Its rare geography and low room density make privacy—not spectacle—the property’s defining luxury.
