The Point occupies a secluded stretch of Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, on a former Great Camp built for William Avery Rockefeller. Its log buildings, fireplaces and wooded shoreline preserve the romantic ideal of rustic life without asking guests to give up serious comfort.

Only 11 rooms and suites are spread among four original-style lodge buildings, each with a strong sense of privacy and its own relationship to the lake. Interiors favor antiques, natural materials and wood-burning fireplaces rather than standardized resort design.

The experience is fully all-inclusive and highly personalized. In warmer months, guests boat, canoe, fish, hike, play tennis or take gourmet picnics onto the lake; winter shifts toward snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating and fireside evenings.

Food is treated as a central part of the stay, with multi-course dinners, private meals and outdoor dining arranged around the weather and guest preferences. Certain evenings retain the camp's famously formal tradition, creating an entertaining contrast between black tie and the deep woods.

The Point works for travelers who want luxury to feel private, social and slightly eccentric. With no need to sign checks or plan every detail, the property operates more like a wealthy friend's Adirondack camp than a conventional resort.
